Berserker Behemoths Barrage Bloodied Boundaries Bound By Bricks and Bitterness....
– Shower this morning
Debugging Hell
Eclipse isn’t picking up object code for objects returned from an InitialContext.lookup because they are Proxy objects and it’s killing me. I have to insert a buttload of debug statements into my session bean and restart JBoss every time I make a change (~1 minute)…it’s making something that should take me 10-15 minutes to debug take an hour. Ug.

I just tried to comprehend all of the operations running on my computer right now and how much crap my processor is doing this moment, even at 10% load thats 2x2.33GHz cores processing craploads of ops. Just…wow. Operating systems are amazing things. Makes you want to cut Vista some slack, just for a moment!

Bitstream Vera Fonts →
If anyone is wondering what font I’m using in my theme. After experimenting with a handful of I found this to be the best Monospace font that I could find for the balance of aesthetic appeal and functionality. Linux nerds around the world seem to agree (I’ve always been in love with Gnome’s font since I first installed Mandrake in college). A+
Some compelling quotes for seeing Hot Rod →
Last night I watched Hot Rod on Mike’s recommendation. It was awesome and, at the least, ranked up there with Blades of Glory and other similar movies. Why it wasn’t big in the theater is beyond me. After reading the Rotten Tomato’s reviews I just don’t understand what people expect going into this type of comedy. It’s not nearly as dense as an epic like Zoolander...

– A poem for the bots that never were.
On bots, MMOs, morality, and economies
So I had an idea the other night while talking over coffee: I used to play the MMO Ragnarok Online. Cutsie little 2D/3D thing, fun to play, massive time sink. The thing about it though is, you could create infinite free trial accounts that lasted 15 days. 360 hours of playing time is enough to make a few hundred thousand zenny(the currency) if you were lucky. This was a decent chunk of change....
A Dream Within A Dream - Edgar Allan Poe
randyhaddock: Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow- You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand...
VNC on the Mac
As much as Mac users (especially the new breed of Rails kiddies) think they’re power users, I find it pretty sad that the best VNC application on the Mac is an alpha product. Now, Jollys is really good and I’m really enjoying it…but it took me a full night of research and trying stuff out to find a good usable VNC application. Chicken of the VNC is slow as hell and hasn’t...
Listen to this
Go to songerize. Type in dial. Listen to the entire thing. At first, you will be put off by the content of what he’s talking about. Ignore the urge to stop it playing. Keep listening. I think this is a new form of music. It’s like beat poetry, but with technological commentary. It’s evolutionary genius. Don’t listen to their words. Ignore them. Tune them out. Let their...
Daily linguistic expression
I will be attempting to put together a stream of conscious blurb every day in the vein of my previous post. It’s essentially pointless nonsensical freeform poetry but I find it fun and fun to read. A hero of mine who does something somewhat similar is why_the_lucky_stiff, I also really enjoy his art and hope to have some one day. It also helps that he made a comic that touches my heart.
Tremulant
I fade as the teal antelopes from the North African Tundra gallop away from the impending nuclear sound cascade. All of the senses collide into a bright red vibration. New planes of humanity are born as the ennui of the masses coalesces into action. A light flickers away and the grains waver, crying existential sorrows of unknowing. The experience abides, and I reappear, renewed.

Very obvious feature that Spaces needs
Per Space backgrounds. Maybe even some basic theming features (tint the menubar/dock) to very easily identify which space I’m on. Sometimes I’m rocking Safari windows in multiple Spaces and I get a little disoriented. Not common but would speed up my workflow a tad if I had color cues to guide me. More often I use the Control (mapped to my caps lock)+Shift + Arrows to move around...
Dream
Last night I dreamt that I became a Yale medical student. Waking up was disappointing.
your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life....
– steve jobs Yes. I’ve been saying this for years, actually had an argument with a friend yesterday. You only have one life, don’t waste it trying to live others’ lives, or ever worse, merely observing fairly uninteresting lives (celebrities).
Extremism is, ironically, all the same bullshit but with different proper nouns.
– Me talking to Mike about the fucked up radical right in this country.
Dead Celebrities
I honestly never would have written anything about this until I saw posts from some other people in regards to it. I guess I’m just a very cold person about some things but when my girlfriend told me about Heath Ledger when I got home my response was just “oh, interesting.” I think the reasoning for this is twofold: 1) I know very little of this particular celebrity. I...

John Mayer on "Douchebag" →
Old post so I’m sure a lot of people have seen it but what he writes makes me like him and think he’s actually not a douchebag. If only I could stand his music, so much talent wasted because of Berklee’s insistence on learning to appreciate pop music. Ug. Still waiting for his metal album.
The Culling
Law 10Infection: Avoid the Unhappy and Unlucky- Robert Green, “The 48 Laws of Power” I read 48 Laws quite a few months ago now but am still working on adopting his more positive ones (I’m not a hardcore power seeker so I’m not concerning myself with extreme deception or anything) and this one struck a chord with me most of all. I think I’ve done a good job of not...
Down with Joel
Since I’m already ranting, let me request something of my readership: Who actually uses Fog Creek software ? For all the authority Joel claims, he is like Second Life: far better at marketing than providing real-world value. Please, delete him from your RSS feeds. Let’s make room for more relevance in our lives. — aaronwhite I actually just finally saw an update on his page in...
Tetris for iPhone and iPod Touch
Tetrablocks! Here it is! Only took me a few hours and I spent some of that time optimizing it for speed (removing some Scriptaculous effects) and changing some absolute numbers to constants for scaling testing I was doing. It’s obviously not very sexy but it works and is playable. I can do some fancy skinning and stuff later if people actually decide to play it (like me) or for something to...

Socratic Ignorance →
I’d say it myself if that link didn’t say it better. — gentlefeeler Probably the most poignant thing I will read all week. Funny how we still haven’t caught up intellectually to where we were a couple thousand years ago, we’re just better at lying, cheating, and stealing.
Non idempotent getters can fuck off
Freakin HTTP stack in Restlet consumes the data that you get off of a request object so any introspective debugging fucks it up. Thanks! That’s all.

– Nobody wants a stylus Being of the same persuasion I can totally empathize with this. A comment on this post put it more succinctly: “…I’ve experienced the nod many times. It’s basically you acknowledging another person, saying in essence, “I recognize you, and why you do what you do.” I...
Information filtering
I have long believed that the people who are the most successful are those who are most talented at filtering out the least useful information and prioritizing their actions. Well, I took one step towards that today and unsubscribed from about half of my RSS feeds, many of them Rails feeds (which is ironic considering how little Rails I’ve actually done). I’ve started collecting more...
I just want to look as good as I did when I was 16…
– My brain’s real answer it was too afraid to tell me last night. :)
Because I want to look like a fucking superhero!
– My brain’s answer (a day later) to the inquiry as to why I’m so hard on myself about my eating/exercising. My response at the time was something stupid but, upon further reflection, this is my true answer.
